Chapter 8
Vedec had finished an entire shift overseeing the workings of the ship and his crew, and had moved on to reading over the records sent to him by the advisors and governors heâd put in place back in their home world.
A cleared throat adjusted his attention from the minutes of the last sessions of government to the male standing in front of him. âSeldan. What can I do for you?â Vedec asked, attempting to smile to appear welcoming, though it wasnât quite as convincing as heâd hoped. He was anxious. Maryanne hadnât replied yet.
âI have received your answer, Sire,â Seldan said, keeping his voice low.
âLet me see it,â Vedec said at once, rising to follow Seldan back to his work station.
Seldan once again, pushed his chair back and away from his work station, giving Vedec free access.
Vedec read through Maryanneâs answer, then couldnât hide his smirk as he turned to Seldan. âPlease print this for me.â
âOf course, Sire.â
After being handed his treasured reply from Maryanne, Vedec finished the rest of the dayâs responsibilities and retired to his quarters. He took the pages out of his pocket and sat down to read them again.
âHello, Vedec!
Iâm very glad to hear that youâre not a hacker. All I can figure is you must work for the company hosting Georgeâs email, so, thank you for not closing it down. If you had, we wouldnât have met, and obviously, it was important that we meet. Youâve helped me a lot, just by being there. For the record, I didnât mean to send you that, but I wonât take it back. I said it, I meant it. You asked about aliens, so here goesâ¦
Obviously, Iâve never met an alien, and donât even know if theyâre out there. I mean, obviously, theyâre out there somewhere. Iâd be an idiot and pretty arrogant to believe we were it. But, Iâve never met one and wouldnât even know how to find one. Which, might be a good thing for them. If I knew where to find one, I might go get me one! Hahahahahaha. You see, while convalescing from the loss and the lie that absolutely changed my life â thatâs how Iâve decided to look at it â convalescing. Anyway, I fell down a rabbit hole when I stumbled onto Syfy Television. Yes, thereâs a lot of alien battles, and a lot of really out there movies and series on it, but thereâs some romance on there, too. And what Iâve found is that theyâre nothing like humans. Theyâre hardy. They donât break easy. Theyâre highly protective and according to what I have gleaned on the television, they value their women and donât lie to them. Okay, maybe thatâs just me, but still Iâm making a point here, so bear with me. Theyâre smart, they donât get sick, and theyâre very, very strong. Some might say, âyeah, but they donât look humanâ. True, but hereâs my thinking on that. Theyâre exotic, like some beautiful, wild animal. You
